El Podes Es Saber
El Poder De Saber

In 2004, Telemundo launched El Poder de Saber (The Power of Knowing) to reinforce its commitment to Hispanics by offering positive messages to improve quality of life. As the name suggests, Telemundo seeks to create awareness about the value of education and the power of being informed about issues that are most relevant to our community. In its fourth year, El Poder De Saber focuses on the problem of dropouts and the causes for which thousands of young Hispanics drop out of school each year.

Telemundo talent participating in this year’s campaign include: Mauricio Islas, Catherine Siachoque, Miguel Varoni, Poncho de Anda, Maria Antonieta Collins, Monica Noguera, and Alejandro Blanco.

As part of the campaign, El Poder de Saber encourages Hispanic youths to continue their education and promotes parental participation in children’s education. For the 2007-2008 campaign, Telemundo has partnered with various educational organizations, including the national office of ASPIRA and its New York chapter.

Discover A Star
Discover A Star

The Discover A Star Foundation is Universal Studios Hollywood’s philanthropic division committed to helping the local community by providing grants to deserving organizations whose initiatives target children’s health and well-being and homeless intervention.

Since its inception in 1993, Discover a Star has raised nearly $3 million. Fundraising for the Foundation continues on an annual basis and culminates each September with the company’s most significant fundraising effort: the Charity Golf Classic and Silent Auction.

Beyond Discover A Star, Universal Studios Hollywood strives to foster positive change and impact the community through a variety of programs and in-kind donations. Through “Volunteers on Location,” employees reach out to non-profits by generously donating their time and resources; and through its “Compassion Program,” Universal Studios Hollywood welcomes terminally ill children on a daily basis into the Theme Park for a brief respite from their medical treatments.

United Way
United Way

For more than thirty years, the United Way has been a priority for the company - with a goal of raising money to support local communities. The GE Foundation matches a percentage of the employee’s contribution. Last year, GE raised more than $30MM.

In communities across America, United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of their communities. United Way is a partner in change, working with a broad range of people and organizations to identify and resolve pressing community issues. Because of the unique conditions in diverse communities, the issues United Way chapters address are determined locally. Focus areas include: helping children succeed; strengthening and supporting families; promoting self-sufficiency; and building vital and safe neighborhoods.
