Universal Media Studios
Universal Media Studios produces or co-produces series for primetime, late-night, daytime, longform, reality and digital media projects for a variety of broadcast networks as well as online outlets. Its current roster features the Emmy-winning comedies The Office, 30 Rock and hit dramas House (for Fox), Heroes, and Friday Night Lights, among others. Many of these series have been honored with prestigious Emmy, Golden Globe, Peabody, SAG and People’s Choice Awards.
Additionally, the studio, along with Wolf Films, produces the powerhouse Law & Order dramas, the most successful drama series brand in television history. The three dramas from Emmy Award-winning executive producer Dick Wolf include the original that began in 1990 along with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) and Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001).
Formerly known as NBC Studios, Universal Media Studios first made its mark in the 1950s with NBC’s hit western Bonanza and went on to create more series, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Providence. Universal Television was created in 1951, and its roster of memorable programs includes Leave It to Beaver, Columbo, The Rockford Files and Miami Vice, among dozens of others.
Late-night programs include NBC’s successful The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Saturday Night Live, and Last Call with Carson Daly.
Landmark programs in the longform arena have included Peter the Great (winner of three Emmys), An Early Frost (winner of four Emmys and a Peabody Award), the acclaimed miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man, and the first made-for-television movie, See How They Run, which aired on NBC in 1964.
NBC Universal Cable Studios
NBC Universal Cable Studios focuses on the creative development of scripted cable entertainment programming. It oversees development of many critically acclaimed shows, including USA Network’s Monk, Psych, The Starter Wife, and In Plain Sight, and SCI FI’s Battlestar Galactica and Eureka. NBC Universal Cable Studios also identifies and develops new scripted programs for NBC Universal’s portfolio of cable networks and for external cable channels.
NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution
NBC Universal is a leader in providing entertainment programming to the domestic and international marketplaces. The NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution division is responsible for the distribution of NBC Universal product to all forms of television within the U.S. and Canada. This includes distribution of current and library film and television product, including formats and non-scripted programming, in the pay, free, and basic markets, as well as the domestic syndication of first-run syndicated TV programs and theatrical and TV movie packages.
Current and upcoming first-run strip syndicated programming at NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution includes Access Hollywood, Blind Date, Deal or No Deal, The Jerry Springer Show, The Martha Stewart Show, Maury and The Steve Wilkos Show. Current first-run weekly syndicated programming includes The Chris Matthews Show, The Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo, Your Total Health, Lyons & Bailes Reel Talk and the off-network distribution of Heroes, The Office, House, the Law & Order series and much more.
NBC Universal International Television Distribution
NBC Universal International Television Distribution is responsible for the distribution of NBC Universal product to all forms of television and new media outside of the U.S. and Canada. This includes a rich library of more than 4,000 feature films and 55,000 television episodes, including current and library titles, formats, non-scripted titles, sports, news, long-form and short-form programming and locally produced content from around the world. NBCU International Television Distribution provides this wealth of product to both traditional and new media outlets, and is a leader in adopting and maximizing new means of groundbreaking content delivery.
