Chief Financial Officer, Focus Features

Robert Gibson is Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Focus Features and Focus Features International (FFI). Mr. Gibson, based in the company’s East Coast offices, joined Focus in mid-2004.

This worldwide studio makes original and daring films that challenge the mainstream to embrace and enjoy voices and visions from around the world that deliver global commercial success. The company operates as Focus Features in North America, and as Focus Features International (FFI) in the rest of the world.


One of the world’s leading international sales agents, FFI also encompasses international distribution, marketing and publicity. FFI has the special ability to tailor international distribution to suit each film, whether licensing distribution rights to independent companies, or securing distribution through Universal Pictures International.


Mr. Gibson graduated from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and also received his MBA from the school. Early in his career, he trained in GE’s Financial Management Program. His two-year stint in the Program took him to the United Kingdom as well as Louisville, Kentucky. He subsequently joined GE as a member of its Corporate Audit Staff.


In 2000, he joined CNBC as Manager, Finance. While working with such key strategic partners as Dow Jones and NYSE, he developed and managed budgets for the growing network’s domestic business day and primetime programming.


In 2002, as Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, he was a key participant in the due diligence and analysis surrounding the formation of Focus parent company NBCUniversal. He managed and reported information to GE’s corporate financial planning group.


Mr. Gibson joined Focus in 2004 as Director, Finance and Strategic Planning. In 2009, he was promoted to Chief Financial Officer (CFO).


Managing finance employees in Focus’ East Coast and West Coast offices, he oversees the creation and submission of all annual and quarterly financial plans for Focus and FFI. He leads the company’s long-term business planning processes and concentrates on growth strategy with the film and digital businesses as well as international opportunities.
