Alfredo Richard
SVP Communications and Talent Strategy, Telemundo
As Senior Vice President of Communications and Talent Strategy, Alfredo Richard is responsible for directing all corporate, internal and crisis communications, as well as community affairs and programming publicity efforts for Telemundo Media. He also oversees Telemundo Network’s on-air talent development and cross promotion initiatives. Working closely with senior management at the network and the station group, as well as with the international, digital and cable groups, Richard is charged with creating, implementing and managing communication strategies to position the company among its key stakeholders. He reports directly to Emilio Romano, President, Telemundo Media.
Since Richard joined Telemundo, the multi-platform company has enjoyed growing visibility among advertisers, Hispanic opinion leaders and viewers, as well as talent and the industry in general. He was instrumental in developing the network’s pro-social campaign “El Poder de Saber” (The Power of Knowledge), Telemundo’s Spanish-language version of NBC’s Emmy-award winning “The More You Know;” the company-wide voter registration campaign “Vota por tu Futuro” (Vote for your Future); and the company-wide year-long Census awareness campaign “Hazte Contar” (Be Counted), as well as other pro-social initiatives related to key issues including self-esteem, health and self-empowerment, among others.
Richard joined Telemundo in 2004 from Claxson Interactive Group, the cable arm of the Cisneros Group media conglomerate, where he served as Senior Vice President, Communications since May 2000. At Claxson, Richard successfully managed communications through the company’s merger to position Claxson as a key player in the South Florida and Latin American media and entertainment industries.
Prior to Claxson, Richard was Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Responsibility at MTV Networks in New York City, where he worked on all of MTV Networks Corporate Communications priority projects and oversaw the company’s expanding public responsibility efforts, as well as the development of internal communications programs. Previously, Richard was Senior Director of Public Relations and Marketing Communications at MTV Latin America in Miami, Florida, where he was responsible for the network’s business, trade and programming media relations, marketing communications programs and public affairs activities. He was instrumental in conceiving and executing MTV Latin America’s successful traveling “Youth Forums” and developing MTV Latin America’s pro-social campaign, “Voces.”
Prior to MTV, Richard was Account Supervisor at Burson-Marsteller Latin America in Miami, where he developed and executed pan-regional communications programs for entertainment and technology clients.
A native of Chile, Richard holds a Master of Science in Mass Communications and Public Relations from Florida International University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics from Universidad Católica de Chile. He is a board member of the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, a member of the Advisory Council of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, and a member of the Public Relations Society of America. Richard resides in Miami Beach with his wife, Dana, and their three children.
