Marcos Santana
President, Telemundo International, Telemundo
As President of Telemundo International, Santana is charged with overseeing all of the network’s content distribution efforts, as well as the company’s distribution services to other producers around the world, international co-productions and partnerships. Santana is also involved in the network’s development process for all program genres, including developing original concepts, procuring scripts, making casting decisions and assessing international distribution viability. He reports directly to Emilio Romano, President, Telemundo Media.
During Santana’s tenure with the company, Telemundo has become the second largest worldwide distributor of Spanish-language programming in the world with programs airing in more than 100 countries.
In early 2007, Telemundo completed the purchase of the operating assets of its foreign distributor, Tepuy International Corp., creating an in-house international division called Telemundo Internacional. Under the agreement, Santana, formerly President and CEO of Tepuy, became President, Telemundo International.
Santana founded Tepuy International in 1989 and has been recognized as an industry leader in Ibero-American television programming distribution. As head of Tepuy, Santana was active in the hands-on creation and selection of many successful television projects with companies such as Telemundo-NBC, RTI, Caracol, Cenpro, Argos, Endemol, Gestmusic, Promofilm, and Televisión Nacional de Chile. He created and executed numerous co-production agreements with some of the most prestigious companies in the global television market, setting new industry standards – Telemundo/RTI, Buena Vista Internacional, Endemol, RCTV and Venevision.
In addition, Santana has been a longstanding and active member of the board of several important television networks in Latin America including Canal A in Colombia, Televen in Venezuela and others in Panama and Spain.
Santana holds a law degree and a master’s degree in copyright law from Spain.
