Curt King
Senior Vice President, Publicity, Universal Television
King oversees publicity strategy and campaigns for NBC Entertainment and for one of the country's largest and most successful production companies, Universal Media Studios, which is responsible for Emmy-winning hit series such as "30 Rock," "The Office," "House," "Heroes," and the "Law & Order" brand, among others.
For the NBC Universal Television Group, King also works with the talent relations, events and operations, and guest relations departments, and also oversees a team of veteran publicists charged with national publicity outreach for the TV Group.
Previously, King was Vice President, NBC Universal Television Studio Publicity and Corporate Communications, following NBC's acquisition of Universal in May 2004. Prior to that, he was Vice President, NBC Studios Publicity and Corporate Communications. He was also Vice President, Primetime Series Publicity for NBC Entertainment, where he oversaw the efforts of NBC's series publicity staff on the East and West Coasts, creating campaigns for some 25 primetime series annually and working with trade and consumer press, electronic media outlets and NBC executives and creative talent.
Among the hit series he publicized during those years are "ER," "Friends," "Frasier," "Seinfeld," "The West Wing," the "Law & Order" brand, "Will & Grace" and "Scrubs."
King was a winner of the Maxwell Weinberg Showmanship Award from the Publicists Guild of America in 1996 for his work on the comedy series "Friends."
He joined NBC in October 1991 and has served as Executive Director, Primetime Series, Director, Primetime Series Publicity and Senior Press Manager. As a show publicist, he one time handled the number one, two and three series on television ("ER," "Seinfeld" and "Friends"). He began his career at NBC publicizing "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," the network television premiere of "Jurassic Park" and NBC's Garth Brooks specials. He has also created campaigns for numerous movies, miniseries and specials.
Prior to working at NBC, King was a publicist at Hanson & Schwam Public Relations, handling a variety of television, film, music and celebrity accounts (including Barbara Eden, Johnny Mathis and Herbie Hancock). He previously served as a weekend news assignment editor at WKYC-TV (Cleveland, Ohio) and as assignment manager/news operations director at WSYX-TV (Columbus, Ohio). He began his career as a news writer at CNN Headline News in Atlanta, Ga.
King graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass-media communications from the University of Akron and has done post-baccalaureate work at Cleveland State University and UCLA. He is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, serving on various Blue Ribbon Emmy Award panels and the internship committee, and he frequently guest-lectures at major universities.
King is President of The University of Akron's Southern California Alumni Chapter and serves as a member of the university's National Alumni Board.
His hobbies include playing tennis, skiing, home remodeling, traveling and spending time with his family. King resides in Agoura Hills, Calif., with his wife, Julie, and their three sons, twins Steven and Kevin, and Jeffrey.
