Michael E. Silver

President, Global Business Development, Universal Parks & Resorts

Michael Silver is President, Global Business Development, for Universal Parks & Resorts. Universal Parks & Resorts is the division of NBCUniversal that oversees all of its theme parks, hotels and retail/entertainment locations throughout the world. Universal Parks & Resorts has interests in tourism and leisure destinations in Universal City, California; Orlando, Florida; Osaka, Japan; and Sentosa, Singapore. In addition, new Universal Studios theme parks have been announced for Seoul, Korea; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Moscow, Russia.


As head of international business development efforts for Universal Parks & Resorts, Mr. Silver works to create new Universal theme parks and resorts in appropriate markets outside the United States, in addition to identifying other tourism, leisure and recreation opportunities for Universal to pursue. He also oversees Universal’s existing licensing agreements at theme park destinations in Japan, Spain and Singapore. Mr. Silver is responsible for both the negotiation and the implementation of new business initiatives for Universal Parks & Resorts and, in such capacity, interfaces frequently with its creative, operational and technical teams.


Prior to assuming his international business development responsibilities, Mr. Silver was the lead attorney for Universal Parks & Resorts. In such capacity, Mr. Silver negotiated and reviewed contracts, new business proposals, acquisitions/divestitures, partnerships, financings and sponsorships for the division. He also advised the group on matters involving intellectual property, real estate development, tax, litigation and labor and employment.


Mr. Silver has been with Universal Parks & Resorts since 1997. He was the Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, for Universal Parks & Resorts from 2002 until early 2010, when he was promoted to his current role. Prior to joining Universal Parks & Resorts, Mr. Silver was an attorney in private practice at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in Los Angeles and, prior to that, at Dewey Ballantine in New York and Los Angeles. Mr. Silver holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor degree from the New York University School of Law, and is admitted to practice law in California and New York.
