According to Nielsen Media Research data, the NBC News coverage (10p-11:05p) averaged 4.770 million total viewers, +52% (+1.642 million) ahead of CBS’ 3.128 million and +66% (+1.891 million) more than ABC’s 2.879 million. NBC delivered a 3.1/5 Household rating, ahead of CBS’ 2.2/4 and ABC’s 2.1/3.
In A18-49, NBC averaged a 1.0 rating, beating ABC by +67% (+4 tenths) and CBS by +100% (+5 tenths). In A25-54, NBC averaged a 1.5 rating, +88% (+7 tenths) ahead of both CBS and ABC. Both competitive networks aired coverage from 10p-11:03p.
Versus the same night of the 2008 RNC Convention (Tue 9/2), NBC was up +6% (+252,000) in total viewers and flat in rating A25-54.
The primetime hour anchored by Brian Williams featured an exclusive interview with GOP rising star Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), as well as contributions and analysis from NBC’s Tom Brokaw, David Gregory, Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell, Kelly O’Donnell, and Luke Russert.
On Twitter, the hashtag #nbcpolitics - which appeared on air often in a “twicker” - was the top trending topic in the U.S.
