NEW YORK – July 31, 2012 – The week ending July 29, 2012 — which included in-depth coverage of the tragic shooting in Colorado, an exclusive interview with presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, and the London 2012 Olympic Games opening ceremony and first weekend of competition — delivered record audiences for “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.”

According to Nielsen Media Research data, the NBC weeknight broadcast delivered an average of 8.525 million total viewers, +1,277,000 more than ABC “World News’” 7.248 million, and +2,531,000 more than CBS “Evening News’” 5.994 million.

Saturday Nightly delivered 11.682 million total viewers, +7,958,000 (+219%) more than World News Saturday’s 3.724 million and +8,963,000 (+330%) more than CBS Saturday Evening News’ 2.719 million.

Sunday Nightly delivered 14.469 million total viewers, +10,090,000 (+230%) ahead of World News Sunday’s 4.379 million and +11,542,000 (+394) more than CBS Sunday Evening News’ 2.927 million.

“NBC Nightly News” Total Viewers (Monday-Friday):

  • Nightly delivered 8.525 million total viewers, +1,277,000 (+18%) more than ABC World News and +2,531,000 (+42%) more than CBS Evening News.
  • Nightly delivered a 5.7/12 Household rating, ahead of World News’ 4.9/10 and Evening News’ 4.1/8.
  • Nightly had its best total viewer delivery, and best viewer advantage over World News since the week of March 5, 2012.
  • Nightly has won for 150 consecutive weeks, and in 197 of the past 198 weeks in total viewers.
  • Versus the 3Q’12-to-date average, Nightly was up in homes (+8%) and total viewers (+10% or +768,000).
  • Versus the same week last season, Nightly was up in homes (+8%) and total viewers (+6% or +485,000).
  • Season-to-date, Nightly leads World News by +982,000 total viewers.

“NBC Nightly News” A25-54 (Monday-Friday):

  • Nightly averaged 2.429 million A25-54 (000) viewers, +519,000 viewers more than “World News — the best advantage since the week of February 13, 2012.
  • Nightly delivered a 2.0 A25-54 rating, ahead of ABC’s 1.6 and CBS’s 1.4 rating.
  • Nightly had its best rating A25-54 since the week of March 5, 2012.
  • This is the 192nd consecutive week Nightly has topped World News in A25-54 (000).
  • Versus the 3Q’12-to-date average, Nightly was up in rating W/M/A25-54 (+21%/+6%/+11%).

Friday, the night of Opening Ceremony, as Brian Williams anchored from London:

  • Nightly averaged 9.213 million viewers, the best single-day delivery since April 23, 2012.
  • Nightly is up +16% (+1.270 million) in total viewers versus its delivery on the comparable Opening Ceremony night in Beijing (Fri 8/8/08, 7.943 million viewers).
  • Nightly topped World News by +2.599 million viewers (+39%), the biggest single-day advantage since February 26, 2010 (Vancouver Winter Olympic Games) and up from a +1,244,000 advantage (+19%) on the comparable night in Beijing .
  • Nightly averaged a 2.3 A25-54 rating, the best single-day delivery since February 29, 2012.
