| JOHN P. WALLACE President, NBC Local Media Division
John Wallace was named president, NBC Owned-and-Operated Television Stations, in July 2007. He oversees NBC Universal’s 10 English-language television stations, which provide NBC network and local programming to nearly 30% of the nation’s households. He reports directly to Jeff Zucker, president and CEO of NBC Universal.
Before this, Wallace had served as executive vice president, Television Operations and Productions Services, since May 2004. In this role, Wallace was responsible for broadcast operations across NBC Universal’s extensive television properties, overseeing the field, production, studio, on-air, and distribution operations for the NBC and Telemundo broadcast television networks, cable networks, and owned-and-operated television stations. One of his most significant achievements was to integrate NBC Universal’s operational and technical television assets into enterprise-wide platforms, eliminating legacy broadcast silos. As a result, distribution of network and cable content is processed through one operating center and system, resulting in millions of dollars in synergies.
Prior to this role, Wallace led the operational integration of NBC and Universal, which resulted in $100 million of operations synergies for the new company. Before the NBC-Universal merger, Wallace had served as senior vice president, Broadcast Operations, for NBC’s Television Stations Division. Named to that position in 2000, Wallace developed the broadcast hub model, which centralized the stations’ master control operations into three regional broadcast centers. After completion of the broadcast hubs, Wallace built a centralized graphics operation in Fort Worth, Texas, which produces all graphics for the NBC and Telemundo owned-and-operated stations in a single location at lower cost with higher quality production capability. GE, NBC Universal’s parent company, recognized Wallace for this innovative technological and operational achievement with the prestigious Edison Award in May 2005. In January 2007, Wallace received the GE Chairman’s Award in the Technology category for his innovative work using cutting-edge technology to improve performance and reduce costs.
Wallace’s previous assignments included serving in sales management at NBC 10 in Philadelphia from 1998 to 2000. Wallace managed the local sales department after completing a two-year post as vice president and chief quality officer for the stations division, earning GE certification as a Master Blackbelt. Prior to joining the stations group, Wallace held various positions in the NBC Network’s Affiliate Relations, Network Operations, Finance, and Affiliate Services departments.
Wallace received a bachelor’s degree in English from Providence College and a master’s degree in political science from Montclair State University. He began his career at NBC in 1988 as a member of the NBC Page Program.
