Joe Uva was named chairman, Hispanic Enterprises and Content, NBCUniversal, in April 2013. A renowned leader with more than 25 years of experience in the global media and advertising industries and innovator who drives profitable business results, Uva is responsible for expanding the company’s Hispanic franchise and all of its Hispanic content efforts, including Telemundo and mun2. In addition, he is tasked with increasing the presence of Hispanic news and entertainment programming across all of NBCUniversal’s networks and platforms. He reports to Steve Burke, chief executive officer, NBCUniversal.
From 2007 to 2011, Uva served as the president and chief executive officer of Univision Communications, Inc. Prior to that, he served as president and chief executive officer of Optimum Media Direction Inc. (OMD Worldwide), overseeing all of its operations from 2002 to 2007. Uva spent the previous 17 years at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., joining the company as an account executive for CNN in 1984 and subsequently rising to vice president and sales manager before becoming the executive vice president for Sales for CNN/Headline News and the CNN Broadcast Networks. This tenure was followed by Uva’s appointment in 1996 to president of Entertainment Group Sales and Marketing of Turner Broadcasting Sales Inc., where he oversaw and directed advertising sales for Turner Entertainment. He began his career at Grey Advertising in media planning.
Uva has received numerous awards for his professional achievements including an induction into the prestigious Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame in 2007. He has served as a director and trustee of several non-profit organizations including the Ad Council, the International Radio and Television Society Foundation, the National Italian American Foundation and The Valerie Fund, a foundation dedicated to treating children with cancer and blood disorders and currently serves on the board of directors of Dunkin’ Brands Group, Inc. (DNKN: NASDAQ). He holds a B.A. in rhetoric and communications from The State University of New York, at Albany, N.Y.
